Description
Descent is a composition that takes advantage of the natural virtuosity and extreme dynamic range of the marching snare drum. While it opens and closes with the type of drumming one would expect to hear from this instrument, the middle two sections explore more elegant style of playing, requiring the soloist to use a more finessed approach to the instrument.

- Player 1: Small Ice Bell, vibraphone, 2 non-resonant metals, China cymbal
- Player 2: Large Ice Bell, 3 opera gongs, chimes, 2 bongos, suspended cymbal
- Player 3: 3 prayer bowls, log drum (4 pitches), crotales (high octave), non-resonant metals, China cymbal, large ratchet, wood block, vibratone, tam tam
- Player 4: glass wind chimes, China cymbal, 3 wood planks, medium and large toms, 3 tuned gongs (G flat 2, A flat 2, C nat. 3; may substitute timpani)
- Player 5: Bass drum, suspended cymbal, kick drum
