I have the earlier publication. (1942) Henry Adler advises students to engage a good teacher. It was under later tuition that I learned to apply the correct sequence of Full, Down, Tap and Upstrokes to the numerous rudimental exercises with the accents. Prior to that I spent much time trying to master it (with tuition) but without success. As such, the stick movements described in the 1942 edition are not a good guide for self taught students. Not having studied the later edition I am not certain if that issue has been addressed. However, if the earlier edition is anything to go by it is fundamental must for any drummers aspiring to play properly. Its a foundation text and provides a life time of work to master. As an example, the single three stroke ruffs with accents should be enough to test any so called accomplished drummer. Looks like a simple thing to rush through on the page but when you really apply it, not so easy...
