Studie II: Epthyic, for solo timpanist and percussion quartet, is the second in a series of pieces which attempt to explore atypical sonic characteristics existing within timpani.

Michael R. Bump is Associate Professor and Director of Percussion Studies at Truman State University. He has served as Assistant Professor of Percussion at the Ohio State University, Associate Professor of Percussion at the University of Mississippi, and has been an artist faculty member at the Sewanee Summer Music Festival and Tennessee Governor's School for the Arts. He holds the DMA as well as MM degrees in percussion performance and literature from the University of Illinois, and the BME degree from the University of Memphis. He is also a recipient of the University of Illinois Edgard Varese Percussion Award. Performance studies have been with such artist-teachers as Jared Spears, Tom Siwe, Fred D. Hinger, Frank Shaffer, and Paul Yancich. He has also studied composition with Jared Spears, Herbert Brun, and Scott Wyatt.
