McKenney-C:M-M (4.5 oct)

C:M by Thomas McKenney is a four mallet solo with CD accompaniment scored for 4.6 octave marimba (low E). The electronic accompaniment of this piece was written with Csound, a comprehensive audio processing system. McKenney used frequency modulation to create all of the sounds for this accompaniment. One of the basic elements of FM is the ration between the carrier signal and the modulator and is known as C:M. Moreover, the title relates the two diverse sound sources of the computer-generated sounds and the marimba. Materials that are pitched are based upon two complementary hexachords.
