Being on a tour in Arizona with the Cunningham Dance Company in 1975, one of dancers (Charles Moulton) brought a dried cactus to Cage, placed it near his ear and plucked the spines of it. This inspired Cage to use cacti as musical instruments in pieces like Child of Tree and Branches.

If you understand Cage's musical philosophy or are a fan of radical Avant Garde music you will enjoy preparing and performing this work. If not then don't purchase. Typical of Cage, these are his instructions on what to use as "instruments" and how to go about realizing a performance. There is no "traditional" music manuscript here. For enthusiasts, part of the challenge/fun is deciphering Cage's handwritten instructions.

I cannot believe they are selling this piece. It's ok to not have a written score, but I am at a loss as to why they think an illegible "hand-written" set of papers would suffice as a road map to learn the piece. Also, I get that Cage must have written these instructions, and this document might be his original "manuscript", however, one cannot simply understand the writing/instructions. If you do, then more power to you. Lastly, Weiss needs to put a description that there is NO written manuscript for this piece. You will simply receive illegible writing on a piece of paper. Good luck!
