Description
The Contemporanea Aluminum Timbal is a light, long, and slightly conical hand-drum. Its tight nylon head allows for the instrument to project loud, rapid phrases and solos with powerful slaps, akin to the African djembe. The Timbal, a Brazilian drum, is commonly used in Bahian drum bands, often referred to as samba-reggae. The term, however inclusive it may seem, does not fully capture the distinct rhythmic identities of the various district-based gatherings, or blocos, in Salvador.
