Description
While composing this concerto I decided to stick closely to a rondo form. Throughout the piece, each member of the ensemble shares a moment with the timpani. Some of these moments are a dialog and some are more united. As the piece continues, the ensemble and soloist grow further apart musically. In the third section, the ensemble and soloist act independently of each other, in their own specific tempi. After the cadenza, the ensemble and soloist are reunited. From measure 159, the soloist is playing somewhat independent of the ensemble. However, the timpanist should be back line up with the ensemble by measure 173.
