Plastic bodies of the instrument sounds worse than natural wood (like rosewood) The fastener broke after a few days of use.
The Danmar Table Top Castanets provide professional concert percussionists and pit orchestra musicians with authentic castanets in a highly convenient format. Often referred to as machine castanets, this mounted design allows players to execute rapid rhythmic passages and complex articulations that would be incredibly difficult with traditional hand held models. Whether you are outfitting a collegiate wind ensemble or playing a fast paced musical theater book, this instrument delivers outstanding projection and precision.
By mounting the castanets to a solid playing surface, percussionists gain the immediate ability to play with multiple implements. You can strike the castanets directly with your fingers for a traditional clacking sound, or use soft rubber mallets when you need to transition quickly between multiple instruments in a dense trap table setup. The dual mounting system allows for distinct two handed rolls and complex rhythmic interplay that solo performers demand.
The foundation of this instrument is a high quality wooden board featuring a rich walnut finish. This solid base not only adds an elegant aesthetic to your concert setup but also provides the necessary mass to keep the instrument completely stable during aggressive playing. The heavy duty tension strings hold the castanets firmly in place, ensuring consistent response and snap back every single time they are struck.

Great sounding castanets! The springs and other hardware are sturdy. The wooden base is solid. The actual castanets have a very articulate sound!
When I opened the box, one of small wooden blocks, which the castanets are mounted on had come out of the base. I was able to get through a gig with them. Luckily, the folks at Steve Weiss arranged for Danmar to replace the instrument and all shipping costs were covered by Danmar. Thank you for standing by your products!
Very very pleased with this purchase so far. The adjustment is easy and very fine. You can make it sound exactly the way you want. The sound is very crisp and cuts nicely through our ensemble.
Handheld castanets can be difficult to control, especially during rapid passages. In addition, dynamics are iffy. I played a Castanet Machine in a past life and was faced again with "West Side Story". No worries with this machine, and the springs are adjustable to one's touch.
