Description

The Celtic Xylophone (Book 2) is the second in this series of Irish arrangements for solo xylophone and piano (reduction of original marimba trio). There is enough stylistic variety in the collection of three works that they may be performed as a set or separately. Each piece in the book represents a different type of Irish Tune: "Echo from Leinster," "The Foggy Dew," and "Come Haste to the Wedding." the reel, ballad, and jig - respectively. The arrangements are meant to be virtuosic showpieces for the xylophone and will work perfectly on solo recitals and percussion ensemble concerts.

Number of Players: 1
Difficulty: Grade 4
Instrumentation:
  • Player I: Solo Xylophone

  • Player II: Piano

  • Nathan Daughtrey (b. 1975) earned a Bachelor Degree in Music Education (1997), a Master of Music in Percussion Performance (1999) and a Doctor of Musical Arts (2004) from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Described as "fresh and imaginative," (Percussive Notes), his band and percussion works are quickly gaining international recognition with performances at educational institutions of all levels, festivals/contests, and music conferences around the world. Many of his original works and arrangements are becoming standards in the repertoire, including "Limerick Daydreams" for percussion ensemble or symphonic band, "Shock Factor" for percussion quintet, and "Strange Dreams" for clarinet/alto saxophone and marimba.
