Both contemplative and exhuberant,Crown of Thorns by David Maslanka once again demonstrates the composer's keen understanding of the boundless musical potential of the keyboard ensemble. Described by the composer as a sonata form, this sixteen-minute work enjoys a refreshingly original handling of tonal harmony and soaring melodic lines that demonstrate Maslanka's sense of lyricism. This intimate and ravishing work is scored for five marimbas (including bass marimba), two vibraphones, and glockenspiel.
