Description
Desert Wind by Eldad Shiloah is a four mallet solo scored for 5 octave marimba. The prelude of this piece starts energetically with a flow of notes, the music depicting the wind blowing in an empty desert. The ensuing sections combine rapid sextuplets with long rolls. A short lyrical section leads to a re-statement of the opening energetic commotion. Ostinato patterns in the left hand can be heard as the right hand plays variations of the original melody. The piece reaches its climax with a "festivo" section in 7/8 time, that incorporates the use of cross sticking much like the timpani technique
