With his performances here of the Twelve Delecluse Etudes for Snare Drum, Rob Knopper has given us a recording which belongs in the rarefied air of the Arthur Schnabel Piano Sonata recordings from the 1930s and violinist Henryk Szeryng's Bach Sonatas and Partitas recording from 1967. Presentations such as Mr. Knopper's seem, interestingly enough, to come along only once in a generation, and he has certainly given one for the ages here.

Rob Knopper has produced a masterpiece which is a must-have in any orchestral percussionist's library. This is a once-in-a-blue moon chance to experience the work of a true virtuoso, and doing so will pay both immediate and long-term dividends.
