Description

The Dragonfly Large Tam-Tam Beater has a huge sound but also makes playing soft notes super easy. The new design sports the same 150mm wheel-shaped core as the original. However, it is now on a much larger handle- 18" long, 7/8" diameter weighted aluminum with a padded grip. It has enough mass and surface area to activate a huge overtone spectrum on any tam. The double-sided soft/hard covering makes executing single notes at any dynamic easy. The large diameter core can also sit upright on the floor- very handy for fast changes. Perfect general purpose mallet for most symphonic tam-tam playing.

Both sides of this mallet effectively engage tam-tams. Be advised there seems to be variability in the way this mallet is constructed. As of the time of writing, the photo shown on Steve Weiss differs from the photo shown on Dragonfly's website, and neither of them reflect the product I received. My mallet has a wood handle, whereas I expected a metal handle. I'm sure they were careful to make sure the weight and balance were the same, and I do like the mallet, I was just surprised.
