Designed by sound artist and percussionist Mike Tamburo, the MTU mallets are intended to move freely between instruments without asking you to reach for a different pair. Keyboard percussion, gongs, singing bowls, log drums, frame drums, whatever's on your setup, these mallets are at home across the full range. If you play a diverse percussion kit or work in sound healing, world music, or experimental contexts, a genuinely versatile mallet is a tool you'll use constantly.

Construction

The head is built around a super-soft rubber ball core wrapped in minky purple fleece, which produces a warm, round tone that draws out the fundamental of an instrument without harsh attack. The lightweight carbon fiber handles keep fatigue low during extended playing, and the overall feel is responsive without being stiff. Tamburo himself has described these as one of the most important tools in his own collection, noting how the combination of flexibility, lightness, and soft tone makes them a practical go-to across a wide variety of instruments and contexts. About Mike Tamburo

Mike Tamburo is an interdisciplinary sound artist, instrument builder, and educator who has shared more than 2,000 concerts and workshops since 1994. His work spans gong music, sound therapy, video art, and ethnomusicology, and he has recorded over 70 albums across solo and collaborative projects. He teaches gong music both in person and online through School of Gong.
