I have been playing them on a kit & odd metals rather than timpani. They are very, very light-weight & give a medium to medium-soft attack. Compressing rings of fabric instead of a wrapped material is the new technique used. The Dragonfly site says they will compress as opposed to shedding or chipping over time. I haven't played them long enough to see this. They are not for everyone. I really enjoy them, especially on cymbal stacks. Priced to move.
