After four hundred years of slavery, the Israelites made their exodus out of Egypt, led by the prophet Moses, and crossed the Red Sea as though on dry ground. Three days later they found water in the desert, but it was bitter and they complained. Then Mosses prayed, and the Lord showed him how to make the water drinkable. When they continues through the desert, the next place where they were led had twelve fish water springs and seventy palm trees. It was called Elim. (Exodus 15: 22-27)
