Harder than expected

I was expecting the latex wrap to give this mallet a bit less attack at the moment of contact with the bar but still a firmness and brightness of sound. However, it has a lot of "click" at the moment of contact and sounds more like a plastic mallet than a latex-wrapped mallet. I use them only in the C5-C7 range. They are painfully brittle below C5, but then I didn't expect them to be useful in the mid to lower range of the instrument. The Medium and Soft mallets I purchased at the same time have a much better sound and are very satisfactory from C2-C5. The sound is full and round with greater distinction than a comparably weighted yarn-wrapped mallet, but without the "click" at the moment of bar contact. Exactly what I was looking for in a latex-wrapped mallet. If I had heard the hard latex-wrapped mallet before purchasing, I would have saved my money and used something already in my mallet case, or purchased the medium hard or medium soft latex mallets.
