Long-Essences of the 4 Signs(SP)-2B/V/C/Cro/2X/2M/5T/P

Essences of the Four Signs by David J. Long for percussion octet. This piece is set in two movements: I. Air and Water, and II. Earth and Fire. The piece opens mysteriously with independent solo parts occurring throughout the first movement then builds to a glorious climax with all of the mallet instruments. The second movement has all players on drums and drives all the way to the end.

Player 3 - marimba, small suspended cymbal, surdo, 2 toms
Player 4 - marimba, large suspended cymbal, surdo, guiro
Player 5 - marimba, chimes, 5 brake drums, tam tam, wind chimes, 2 triangles
Player 6 - large suspended cymbal, medium suspended cymbal, small suspended cymbal, crotales, tam tam, bass drum, low tom tom, temple blocks, triangle
Player 7 - small suspended cymbal, finger cymbals, wind chimes, bass drum, bells, 5 tom toms
Player 8 - timpani, 2 tom toms
