Smales-Fanfarra (SP)-P

Fanfarra by Joel Smales for percussion ensemble. This exciting percussion feature is written in a South African carnival street drumming style and makes a great opener on a concert. It incorporates a traditional call and response and quickly moves into a samba in the style of the popular Brazilian music group Olodum. This energetic piece contains two breaks which should be played on cue from the tapito (samba whistle). The tapito player can either be the ensemble's conductor or one of the ensemble players. The close of the piece is a variation of the opening call and response.
