Description
This marimba duet, Vuja De by Nicholas A. Fields, has three contrasting sections that explore different styles and techniques. It begins with a dark, mysterious chorale using dissonant chords and a legato technique. The piece evolves into a repetitive allegro section, which is much more lively and aggressive. During this portion of the piece, notes are progressively added, building to the 3/4 section in the middle of the duet. Vuja De concludes by revisiting each theme, finishing like it began, with the dissonant chorale. Just like the phenomenon of vuja de, this duet encourages the performers to experience the marimba with a new and different perspective.
