Description
Fireworks by Wim Henderickx for saxophone quartet, percussion quartet, and electronics was composed in 2012 commissioned by Bl!ndman for the production 'Whiplash'. The composition is built in three parts and an epilogue.
The first part (EXPLOSIONS) represents the power of big explosions and sound bursts. Rising melodic figures in the saxophones are accompanied by vehement percussion.
The second part (IN THE MOOD) is a more introspective part with references to the jazz and a mainly vertical, harmonious sound. Initially the saxophone- and percussion quartet play the same rhythmical patterns which gradually develop in different outcomes.
The third part (DANCE!) refers to different rhythms and musical styles from the world music. It is a virtuoso part that goes to the extreme technical limits.
The epilogue (REFLECTION) is the part where all energy is channeled and everything slows down gradually.
