Lou Forestieri's Fantasy for Timpani and Orchestra is a short but challenging work for 5 timpani and orchestra. Melodic writing utilizing well thought out pitch changes exploit the full capabilities of modern pedal timpani. A welcome addition to the repertoire for those occasions when a showcase for the timpanist is desired but a full scale concerto would be too much.
