I still like this piece, especially the movement with the timpanist playing with four marimba mallets (Mold Monsters in the Refrigerator) and the movement with crotales and cymbal played on the drums. I do appreciate the large number of timpanists who have played the piece and contacted me to let me know they have played it. I have a sequel of sorts now, Grotesques: Concerto for Timpani and Wind Ensemble which employs the four-mallet technique and some complex melodic pedal work.
