I have been working through this book for about two years now and I really like the diversity of the etudes and the challenges that they present. I am working on etude 26 at the moment and absolutely love this piece it is absolutely gorgeous. This book will be with me for many years to come. David has written a superb book which is now a absolute classic.
Vibraphone technique dampening and pedaling is really a superb book. I have been working through this book since the start of the Covid pandemic a couple of years ago. The study's are really interesting and challenging and was a healthy distraction from being in lockdown for a long time here in Australia. I have almost finished playing all the studys in this book and feel a deep gratitude to David for writing this book.
I have thoroughly enjoyed getting into this book. I had already practiced mallet dampening a bit but the techniques in this book along with the site-reading make it a fantastic new challenge. Highly recommend to any vibraphonist!
Even if you are already killing it at vibraphone, this book contains great etudes that will challenge you. Especially if you play it at the written tempo.
I was thrilled with the book. I have been told by numerous teachers that nothing is written for vibraphone and just to use marimba music. That unfortunately does have dampening and pedaling. Your customer service person was kind enough to add a couple of pages on the website so I could make sure the book was what I wanted. It is exactly what I needed for a beginning vibraphone. This book should actually take her through her senior year in high school. I plan to order the jazz technique book later when she is ready. I have shared your name with several colleagues.
