Description
Gankino Choro arranged by Wessela Kostowa for percussion duo or trio. Bulgarian folk music's propensity toward complex combinations of additive rhythmic configurations makes it as a whole, a very unique Eruopean tradition. The rhythmic patterns for this dance may be best understood when they are divided into groups of 2- and 3-beat patterns, ie 11/8: 2-2-3-2-2. The standard rhythmic accompaniment instrument in Bulgarian folk music is the Tupan, a light weight bass drum. This drum is played with a heavy wood beater held in the right hand, and a long thin stick held in the left hand, and is traditionally held by a strap attached to the player's left shoulder. Scored for xylophone, marimba, and tupan.
