Hahn-Sweet Suite-M

The idea for this piece started one evening when I was making dinner. I found a wooden chopping board and a knife making an enjoyable sound, and immediately marimba and mallets flashed in my mind. In this piece, each movement was inspired by the different types of cooking process that use wooden chopping boards, and those are demonstrated by various types of glissandi/portamenti, increasing/decreasing intervals and layers, as well as extended marimba techniques. Sweet Suite is dedicated to Brant Roberts who premiered this piece at his doctoral recital at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in April 2022.
