Description

The Summoning of Katakhanes is a multi-percussion duet by Scott Harding. The piece incorporates several traditional percussion instruments, including the yak bera and davula, both traditional Sri Lankan drums. The yak bera, also known as the "demon drum," is a low country drum traditionally used to accompany masked dancers and is played with two open palms. The davula is a shorter cylindrical drum used in Buddhist ceremonies throughout Sri Lanka, played with one palm and one stick.
