A courageous experimentalist, Lou Harrison's explorations into world music, alternate tuning systems and exotic instrumentation opened up the minds (and ears) of countless composers and musicians for decades. This book is an indispensable snapshot of the inner workings of his mind. If you approach the work as a clear academic endeavor you will likely be disappointed. The presentation and subject matter are as experimental as Harrison was. If you loosen up a bit and just let it wash over you you'll be in for a fun and entertaining read.
