Bertold Hummel is known for being versatile in dealing with a wide variety of musical forms. This piece, ... in honorem..., dedicated to Klaus Hashagen on his 70th birthday, was recorded by various broadcasters and was very well received at the premiere. It is in three movements. His musical material is based on the anagram of the dedicatee. An extensive toccata follows an improvisation-like invocation as an introductory sentence. The 3rd movement chorale concludes the effective piece, which is rich in timbres.
