Description

The "Quattro Pezzi" composition was created in 1990 specifically for Peter Sadlo. It showcases a diverse range of percussion instruments centered around the solo vibraphone.

In the "Prologue (I)," the vibraphone and metal sounds predominantly shape the tonal qualities and "invocative gestures."

The "Allegro con brio (II)" offers a toccata-like structure, featuring drum-head, wooden, and metal sounds, along with two vibrant vibraphone solo passages. A jazz-inspired melody, accompanied by a persistent ostinato figure, captures the listener's attention.

"A la Sarabande (III)" presents a fantasy built upon a sarabande rhythm, offering multiple sections that highlight the vibraphone's tonal versatility.

The finale movement, "Vivace (IV)," is a virulent-virtuoso piece centered around a march episode. It explores a range of interpretations, from grotesquely alienated to hymnic. After a variation of the movement's beginning, the coda briefly references a note sequence from the prologue, leading to an effective stretta conclusion.
