Description
Hush by Glenn Kotche arranged for percussion ensemble and optional chorus by James Campbell. This piece was originally written for percussion quartet and soundscape. All keyboard instruments require two mallets.
Instrumentation:
Marimba 1 - 4.3 Octave Marimba (shared with Marimba 3) playing on the "natural" side, voice.
Marimba 2 - 4.3 Octave Marimba (shared with Marimba 4) playing on the "natural" side, voice.
Marimba 3 - 4.3 Octave Marimba (shared with Marimba 1) playing the "accidental" side, voice,.
Marimba 4 - 4.3 Octave Marimba (shared with Marimba 2) playing on the "accidental" side, voice, drum kit.
Percussion 1 - Vibraphone (mallets & bow), rainstick, voice, toy box fx, thing gong or thundersheet.
Percussion 2 - Vibraphone (mallets & bow), rainstick, voice, toy box fz, wind chimes (wood and/or bamboo), fx cymbal (spiral trash), timpano (only note required is C - can be played on 29" or 26" drum).
Percussion 3 - Crotales (high octave), cluster chimes (metal tubes), plastic hose (any pitch), bongos, pitch pipe, toy box fx, small bass drum with popcorn snare drum (tuned to sound like a drum machine) voice, large gong.
Percussion 4 - Plastic hose tuned to A, large gong, voice, pitch pipe, vibraslap.
Percussion 5 - Plastic hose tuned to !, bongos, voice, pitch pipe, toy box fx, large ratchet, timpano (only note required is low G - can be played on 32" or 29").
Percussion 6 - 2 Timpani*, plastic hose (any pitch), voice, pitch pipe, toy box fx, large ratchet. *The timpani play two notes in this part - E3 and C2. E3 can be played on a 26" or 23". D2 is generally the lowest pitch on a 32", so your best hope of getting a C2 is to tune your 32" as low as you can. However you may wind up having to play this note an octave higher, in which case it can be played on a 29" or 26".
Chorus A & B (optional) - Voice, wind wands (or bullroarers).
