I do a fair amount of small kit / low volume gigs, and this is the perfect beater for those. Yet it's not too soft, so the bass drum doesn't sound "mushy."

I have some very old cork core beaters and also modern soft beaters and discovered that the softer core works very well with complimenting the sound of an acoustic bass in small group jazz settings. This new Innovative beater has the same effect. The sound fits inside the acoustic bass sound. I don't use these for practicing jazz drums, I use the Vic Firth felt beater that is shaped like a lollipop and turn the small edge to the drum head. I have not tried this Innovative beater with a cajon but assume it would work fine for that purpose.
