Description
Three Marimbas-Six Pitches (Op. 86) was inspired by Jonathan Kramer's Five Studies on Six Notes which he composed in 1976-77. Dr. Kramer (1942-2004) taught theory and composition at Columbia University. His impressive list of teachers includes Pierre Boulez, Karheinz Stockhausen, and Roger Sessions among others. As a young student at William Paterson College in 1978, I worked on his piece (we never performed it) and it made a lasting impact on me. Three Marimbas-Six Pitches pays homage to Jonathan.
