Léon Jessel was a German composer born in Stettin. After studying with various teachers between 1888 and 1891 he became a conductor and musical director working in many German cities. His best known operetta is the Schwarzwaldmädel, first performed in the Comic Opera, Berlin, in August 1917 having a run of 900 performances. He went on to write a total of 18 operettas without however achieving the same success. He is equally well known for his Parade of the Wooden Soldiers.
John Willmarth is an active performer, composer, author, and educator in the central Kentucky area. A versatile percussionist, Willmarth is experienced in many areas of percussion including jazz, concert, marching, and world percussion.
