  • Léon Jessel was a German composer born in Stettin. After studying with various teachers between 1888 and 1891 he became a conductor and musical director working in many German cities. His best known operetta is the Schwarzwaldmädel, first performed in the Comic Opera, Berlin, in August 1917 having a run of 900 performances. He went on to write a total of 18 operettas without however achieving the same success. He is equally well known for his Parade of the Wooden Soldiers.
