JGpercussion JP9 Joseph Pereira Timpani Mallets are made with a European layered design that features layers of leather and Viennese flannel. This model is made with medium sized soft flannel discs. It is an articulate but warm sounding stick.

All of the mallets in the Joseph Pereira Signature line are made from strong, hand-selected bamboo. Each pair is 15 inches long (38cm) with bamboo ranging between 11-13mm in diameter. Each mallet comes fitted with a European style handle grip.

JP9 is definitely one of my most favorite mallets! It makes a little stronger sound than JP 10. If you want to play with JP9, I highly recommend these :)

These sticks are very nicely crafted and weighted. They provide a very articulate sound. Unfortunately I had one of the screws fly off a couple of times, scattering flannel discs everywhere. Unlike the website picture, there is no extra threading on the pair I received, so just a turn to two of the screw and you are in for a surprise. It happened to me again during Beethoven 7th tonight. Not only did the flannel go flying, but I put a nice little ding in my $100 timpani head as the bare end of the stick hit the head. I am afraid I am going to have to retire this pair of mallets. FYI I owned them less than a year.
