Description

The MO7 Timpani Mallet from JGpercussion's Michael Oberaigner line is also called the Schwammschlägel Small Mallet. Re-created from 1849, these "Sponge-headed" mallets were originally designed by Mendelssohn's timpanist, Ernst Pfunt. A small composite core, covered with a layer of sponge then wrapped with liner felt. A truly unique sound.

"The sound is very direct – it can be soft enough to blend in, and warm enough for rolls – you can also be very articulated, and go over the whole orchestra if you need. I like these for Mendelssohn Italian Symphony." – Michael Oberaigner

Light weight but very articulate. Excellent balance of mallet head and shaft. I picked these up looking for a "sponge" headed mallet to use in Mendelssohn's first symphony. Worked very well and helped to moderate the heaviness and produce articulation.
