Perfect for what I got it for; a musical where I had quick changes and a small setup. It allows you to play the slapstick/whip sound with just one hand. It has a GREAT sound to it. And a great look (sorta "vintage"). One trick I think that helps - when holding the handle - hold it with "french Grip" (like timpani mallet, with the thumb facing up). Then, use your thumb as a stopper, so that when you 'whip' the device, the backwards movement of the top piece of wood doesn't extend back TOO far so that it messes with your timing. Once you spend a few minutes, you can get a handle on it. It isn't as "accurate" as a two handed version, but when you are in a situation where you have a quick instrument change, small space, or need your other hand to play something else, this guy works great. And with a little practice you can get your timing down.
