Description

These two solos use a hybrid musical form based on South Indian drumming structures as well as rudimental elements from American snare drumming. I have drawn from material taught to me by Prof. Trichy Sankaran as well as taken ideas from Bob Becker's book "Rudimental Arithmetic". There are also French rudimental motifs from Joseph Tompkins and Guy Lefevre. The forward is written by Josh Jones. These solos are not simply transcriptions of South Indian drum solos; I wanted to find my own voice and have ended up using forms and motifs that draw from the "West" and the "East". Here's the hybrid South-Indian American form of the solo: Principal Themes Nadai (subdivision) Change #1 Refrain Nadai (subdivision) Change #2 Refrain Pharan Long Mora Final Korvai Coda.

- Malcolm Lim
