The sound of this when using included scraper is poor. Try something like Vic Firth Dreadlocks though and you get a really cool sound. This is good for marching bands, or other areas where the sound needs to cut. It's also good if you travel a lot as a lot of the wooden and gourd versions are fragile.

This product has several advantages over the traditional carved gourd guiro: it can be much louder if desired, it is more durable, and it can be mounted on an LP mic claw to enable one-handed playing or quick changes between instruments. It comes with two scrapers that provide different sounds and volume levels.

I have now had the chance to use this guiro on a couple of gigs and in the recording studio and it sounds great for the price. For the music I play, this guiro has the power I need to make sure the audience can hear it.
