Description
The title of Payton MacDonald's piece Marwa is taken from a Hindustani raga, the scale of which lacks a fifth giving it a dissonant and unsettled feeling. Although the work is structured according to the conventions of Hindustani Dhrupad, its tone and dramatic impulse is thoroughly Western.
