Sejourne-Magellan Concerto (StS)-V/M/P/Orch.

Emmanuel Sejourne's Magellan Concerto was commissioned by "Concours International de Percussions Cannes 2010" & Norsk musikforlag. This 5 movement work for solo percussion and string orchestra is based on the fantastic voyage of Ferdinand Magellan from 1519-1522, which became the first successful circumnagivation of the world (althought Magellan never made it back as he was killed in battle in the Phillippines). This work is dedicated to Philippe Voituron. Each movement of the work is designed for the soloist to play from stations, each on a different side of the orchestra:

Movement 1: marimba - 5 octaves
Movement 2: cloche (bell), bell-tree, large tam-tam, vibra-slap, 4 glass bottles, 5 temple blocks, triangle, large crash cymbal, crecelle, 2 little gongs (B/C#)
Movement 3: snare drum
Movement 4: vibes
Movement 5: bass-drum, 4 tom-toms, 2 bongos, 1 temple block, 4 cymbals (splash, chinese, large and small crash)
