Description

The Malletech Bob Becker Soloist Xylophone is one of the most popular models of signature xylophones on the market today, featuring 1 5/8" to 2 1/2" extra-wide round bars, brass tunable resonators, and a stunning brass/oak classic frame. Developed with the input of the world's greatest xylophonist, Bob Becker, it is modeled after the classic Deagan model known as the "Artist Special." The bar geometry has been duplicated, including the unique rounded ends. Wide bars and large resonators make it an ideal choice for a soloist or for any large ensemble.

The Real Xylophone Sound

The ubiquitous keylon and acoustilon xylophones have tricked people into thinking a xylophone is supposed to sound bright, even "ricky-ticky", but for anyone whose been lucky enough to play an endangered Deagan xylophone, you know there's supposed to be warmth and tone behind the articulation. The Bob Becker Soloist model perfectly reproduces that model xylophone sound. The wide, rounded-off bars feel right to me. It's cozy and welcoming in a strange way, like there's nostalgia nestled in the space between the Bb and Gg. To be candid, I don't own one, but I've played one several times and I'm in love. I'm writing this review so more people will buy it, hopefully keeping it in production until I can afford one.
