Good general mallets without spending way too much. Well balanced for 4 mallet playing. Hardness works well over a good range of the instrument.
A medium-hard, round-headed mallet that has clarity and a full-spectrum response in all ranges, without ever sounding harsh, on birch shafts.
The Grand Soloist mallets have a rubber core plus an additional layer of latex, mounted on select birch shafts. Unlike most of Malletech’s marimba mallets, they are similarly weighted. They are also wrapped differently than any of the other Malletech marimba models. The synthetic blend of yarn is wrapped medium-tightly and angled to produce a rounder head shape. Gordon’s design is a great choice for players who emphasize clear articulation.

These mallets still work great after two years of use. After performing Rotation no. 2 by Eric Sammut at State two years ago, the judge told me the mallet choice was great. These mallets don't get super loud but are nice for rolls or for any general marimba piece.
Teacher recommend these as a utilitarian set of mallets that will last forever, and that is exactly what they are. After going through several sets of mallets in less than a year these are a refreshing relief. They have a nice warm sound, but are still loud enough for pit work. Most importantly they are very durable. Had them for over a year, still sound great, and still tightly wound. I would highly recommend these.
I was going through mallets every two months. I have had these almost a year...no problems. The synthetic material lasts so much longer than cheap yarn mallet heads. The sound is very nice. Overall, my favorite marimba mallet.
