I've had this marimba since late Nov of 2019. The sound is very nice. It definitely sounds like a marimba. Seriously, unless you have it right next to a rosewood you probably wouldn't know it's a different wood. I appreciate the sturdy frame but the paint/finish on the frame (wood components) chips off more easily than I expected. My marimba had arrived with some damaged bars and rails but SW and Malletech were pretty quick to address the issue. Customer support is A+! The marimba was only shipped in two big boxes. Maybe the shipping method will change though. I'd prefer the bars be in their own box when shipped. A big plus to this instrument is that it's tuned prior to being sent to you. Once I had all my bars back from repair, the board sounds pretty great and has held its tuning. I would recommend this marimba to anyone who wants an instrument that is: affordable, can fit right in on stage next to instruments 5x its price, and has a smooth sound. I feel we all want that! The components are beefy though! It's more difficult to haul this around compared to some other competitors like Adams. But the trade-off is you get natural spacing of bars and a professional looking frame with Malletech. This a solid investment for any percussion major or professional in-need of immediate access to their own marimba.
