In a sense, the timpanist has to think both like a solo timpanist as well as a drum set player. The name of this solo comes from the composers home town of Rochester (NY) - the Flower City. I am using this as a competition solo. It's like a tenor solo for timpani. I think it's between a grade 3 and 4. It's challenging, but not "impossible". I think it is an awesome change up from traditional timpani pieces.
