The Mapex Black Panther Switchblade is a 14" x 5.5" maple snare drum with crisp, articulate tone with a bright, cutting character. The 6-ply, 6mm maple shell delivers a fast, responsive feel with strong projection, and the SONIClear 45° bearing edge allows the head to sit flatter and make better contact with the shell, producing a stronger fundamental pitch, more consistent tuning, and an expanded tuning range compared to a standard bearing edge. The striking Aegean Burl veneer finish gives it a bold, distinctive look that stands out on any stage.

Air Flow Venting is one of the more thoughtfully executed features on this drum. Mapex ran extensive testing to determine the ideal number and placement of vent holes for the Switchblade specifically, which directly affects both the feel of the drum and its overall resonance. The Cylinder-Drive strainer uses a self-lubricating bearing for smooth, reliable operation, and the micro-lock tension control knobs give you precise, repeatable snare tension adjustment. Single-flanged hoops keep the tone open and lively with a natural, unobstructed response.
