Palumbi-Marimba in Fuga-M

Marimba in Fuga by Federico Palumbi is a four mallet solo scored for 5 octave marimba. Of this piece, Palumbi writes, "My compositional focus was to explore the polyphonic possibilities of percussion instruments. The marimba's keyboard and the piano's keybpoard are structurally the same, so I intended to transfer my counterpoint studies to marimba, following above all, the masterly example that Bach's fugues have left to us. I followed this intent, without ignoring the attention to the percussive wau of playing the marimba - so I tried to join these two aspects - always respecting the true essence of marimba."
