This is an absolutely amazing book of arrangements. While slowly growing my own concept of a "marimba band" in Edmonton, Canada, pieces from this book have been an inspiration. Terry Baldrige did a great job with this compilation. "La Sandunga" and "La Adelita" in particular remain pieces that stay in the "marimba-band canon" for us. When we have performed these pieces at farmers' markets, on multiple occasions people of Mexican origin have stopped us in the streets and thanked us for playing music of their country, which they recognized.

It is a great ensemble experience for the four octave marimba. The selection of songs is terrific. They well represent traditional Mexican and Central American marimba. The arrangements are true to the sounds one hears in the streets, plazas, and fiestas in Southern Mexico and Central America. The music is presented clearly and in a form that even developing beginners can play. All selections are amply annotated for articulation, tempo, and dynamics. Included, in individually bound booklets, are parts for each of the three positions for all songs. This is a book students will want to own and to play. It's music audiences will love hearing.
