Lighter, simpler and clearer than WW4 and WW5 and right between them in hardness. A really great choice for a simple, clean sound. Sounds a little bangy in the bottom octave, but not too bad.
Description
The Double Helix Series was developed to bring out the warmth of the fundamental throughout the range of the 5-octave marimba. The relaxed yarn tension on these mallets enhances the smooth, dark attack of the mallet.
The exclusive patent pending “double helix wrap” technique allows you to easily identify each mallet in the series. Two strands of yarn are wrapped independently of each other, creating a woven effect. After one of the strands makes a revolution around the mallet head, the other strand makes a revolution, securing the previous strand. This locks the yarn in place and prevents it from unraveling. This unique method of wrapping provides our mallets with their distinct look, and exceptional sound.

Double helix in my opinion is the best series that marimba one offers. It has the least contact sound, and the range between the mallets from soft to hard is pretty good. These mallets easily cut through concert wind ensembles, and are good for articulate, louder parts that need to cut. My only wish with any marimba one mallet, is that they would lower their price! There are mallets rivaling them (some sounding just as good) for about half the price. I really don't care about the look of the mallet, I care about the sound... And I really feel like marimba one is charging almost double the price of a normal mallet just because of it looking different. I wrap mallets myself, it's no harder to do a double helix wrap or wave wrap, etc. it's just a different technique. I think they need to re-evaluate their prices.
