Lowry-Marimbadzah-M

Marimbadzah by Mark Lowry is a four mallet solo scored for 4.3 octave marimba. The title of this piece combines two words - marimba (the instrument this piece was composed for) and agbadzah (the African drumming style whose rhythms this piece is based on). This piece is conceived rhythmically; pitches and melodic shapes, with their qualities of consonance and dissonance, are used to highlight the flow of rhythmic tension and release inherent in agbadzah.
